Batson-Cook Development Co. has hired Mark Stewart as director of investments to help grow its portfolio in the Southeastern United States.

A former investment banker with First Fidelity, Stewart has worked for Hines, Transwestern and CBRE. Most recently he was COO of a real estate services firm.

"We have identified a significant capital gap between good developers and lenders," said Batson- Cook Development Chief Operating Officer Mike Hood. "Mark is going to help us grow that side of the business."

Batson-Cook Development Company is a development firm that provides capital and development expertise in a variety of property types with operating partners. Through its acquisition in 2008 by one of the world's largest construction firms, Kajima Corp., BCDC has the ability to take debt positions as well as provide sponsor equity through joint venture partnerships with other developers. Stewart's job will be to connect Batson-Cook Development's resources with solid projects in need of capital.
